In recent days (it's now Aug 8) I have n...John,<br />In recent days (it's now Aug 8) I have noticed the bean fields turning black but they have not been harvested. I asked a fellow knowledgable countryman (who has walked on Canons Farm for decades) and he told me that:<br />1) they are not broad beans as eaten by humans but a similar species where the beans are harvested fro animal feed;<br />2) Wait for this.... they were not recently sprayed with insecticide but a defoliant so that the plant itself would go black and die making the beans easier to harvest.<br />Now, I think this man knew what he was talking about.
